What are Anchor Texts and how to use them for SEO?
Anchor Texts: The world of search engine optimization (SEO) is quite vast. And one point where one of its most notable strengths is found is in the creation of redirect links. Thanks to Link Building, new or less relevant pages are leveraged in the authority within other more relevant and better-positioned websites to get a boost in their own positioning.
However, the success of Link Building strategies (which seek to obtain the greatest number of Backlinks to our website) is based on two things: the quantity and quality of the links and Anchor Texts. But what do we mean by Anchor Texts?
What are Anchor Texts?
The Anchor Texts are the words or phrases on which a reference link is inserted that takes the reader to other pages, either internal or external. In other words, it is the text visible and arranged for the reader to click and receive more information about the topic or linked word.
We have an example of this in the previous paragraphs with âLink Buildingâ and âBacklinksâ. Both have been used as Anchor Texts, which will redirect you to pages within WhiteSEO.
Why are they important for SEO?
Within the web content, Anchor Texts help to summarize and describe with high precision what the reader will find when opening the link. The linked text is also taken into account by the search engine algorithm (example: Google) to identify what the website that has received the backlink is about.
Returning to the example of the same anchors that we have used, the link on the word âLink Buildingâ summarizes that, by clicking on it, the reader will expand the information about the Link Building. Also, Google will understand that the link redirects to a web page with content related to Link Building.
Only that recognition that the Google algorithm makes on the linked text is important to add points that help position the website. In addition, the Anchor Text is one of the most important factors among the many others that influence the indexing and positioning of a website and that is why it should always be used.
Types of Anchor Texts to favor SEO
It is not always positive to use the same Anchor Text to try to position a website through a Link Building strategy. In fact, if you always use the same text and link, Google would take it as spam. To avoid this, here are several examples according to their type, so that you can create better quality links to your website:
Suppose you have an online gift shop and you want to position your website. The keyword you want to use is âwedding giftsâ. You can create various Anchor Texts from them. Pay attention to the words that we underline, which will simulate to be linked.
-
Exact Match: Where to buy wedding gifts?
-
Partial Match: Where to buy wedding gifts?
-
Long Tail: Discover the best cheap wedding gifts.
-
Semantic: Where can I buy gifts for just married?
-
Generic: If you want to discover cheap wedding gifts, click here.
-
Brand: Find the best gift at WeddingGifts.
-
Brand with Keyword: Find the best gifts for the newlyweds at WeddingGifts.
Use the Anchor Texts in the best way
Anchor Texts cannot be excluded from your positioning strategy. Many times, we focus on content creation and optimization, ignoring the power of links. However, we have also seen that bad applications of these strategies can cause penalties in search engines.
To achieve this, find an ideal keyword to link to your content and make use of the different variations of links, keeping the exact match to a minimum. Thus, you will prevent Google from marking your links as spam and subtracting points from your positioning.
